Understand your risk for HIV-1 infection by talking to your healthcare provider and asking if TRUVADA for PrEP may be right for you.
Only your healthcare provider can assess your risk of getting HIV-1. But it can be helpful to learn about some of the risk factors and understand who should, and who should not, take TRUVADA for PrEP.
TRUVADA for PrEP is only for HIV-negative adults
at high risk of getting HIV-1 from sex.
Men or transgender women who have sex with men who are at high risk of getting infected with HIV-1 through sex
Male-female sex partners when one partner has HIV-1 infection and the other does not
You might be at high risk of getting HIV-1
from sex if you:

Have sex within an area or social group with a high rate of HIV and answer "yes" to one or more of these questions:
These are not all the risk factors for getting HIV-1 infection. Talk to your healthcare provider to learn more.
TRUVADA for PrEP should not
be taken by anyone who is:
- Unsure of his or her HIV status
- Taking hepatitis B medicines including Epivir-HBV (lamivudine) or HEPSERA (adefovir)
Taking TRUVADA for PrEP also means committing to:
TRUVADA for PrEP is for those at high risk of getting HIV-1 infection through sex. Your healthcare provider will determine your level of risk. If you are at risk, starting TRUVADA for PrEP is a decision you will make with your healthcare provider. Remember, TRUVADA for PrEP must be used with safer sex practices.
